    Eligibility requirements

    • Published works by writers published on or after the eligibility year (Jan 1st, 2019). 
    • Unpublished works are eligible too.
    • Category One : Full-length books of non-fiction (eligible to apply to compete for the Golden Door Non-Fiction Award). It must be your original work of not less than 8000 words. 
    • Category Two : Non-fiction essay or blog of your original work which are at least 1000 words and a maximum of 3000 words (eligible to apply to compete for the Golden Door Essay/Blog Award). 
    • Category Three : A poem of not less than 12 lines and not more than 20 lines. The poem should reflect the Author's truth or a golden truth.

    The following are NOT eligible :

      • Any works which have been written by a ghost-writer/s. 
      • Non-English titles.
      • Works which have been translated into English. This is because Translated Literature has not yet been added as a Category in the Golden Door Awards 2020.   
      • Any works by writers published before the eligibility year (Jan 1st, 2019).
      • Any works by writers that do not fit within the 3 Categories listed above. 

      In the event of a dispute as to eligibility, the Board of the Golden Door Awards will decide whether the entry is eligible, and its decision will be binding.

      Shortlist

      • There will be a panel of three (3) Judges in the categories of Non-fiction Book, Non-fiction Essays / Blogs and Poems. 
      • The Golden Door Awards will announce the Top 20 from each or a combination of the 3 categories in July 2021
      • Consequently, there will be another round of judging before 1st, 2nd and 3rd Prize Winner in each category is announced at the Golden Door Awards Virtual Convention in September 2021. 
      • If you have been shortlisted, you are required to attend the Awards event which can be attended virtually or in person planned for September 2021. Attendance is mandatory as the the Winner/s will be announced during that event date only. You can choose to book early at half the rates. 

      The Prestigious Golden Door Award

          The highly-sought-after Golden Door Award trophy that is a historic representation of "Truth & Integrity of the Written Word".

           

          Trophies include Gold, Silver and Bronze. Joint Winners will receive a trophy and certificate each. The certificate is signed by the Chief Judge, Dr Kirpal Singh, who is Singapore's renowned Poet Laurette and the first Asian Director of the Commonwealth Essays. The 2nd signature is by the Founder of Golden Door & Truth Advocate, Tahira Amir Sultan Khan.

            Past Notable Recipients of the Golden Door Award

                  Silver Trophy Winner the Book Category, Eirliani Abdul Rahman is Senior Assistant Director at the National Council of Social Service (NCSS) in Singapore. She was seconded to head programmes and operations at Caregivers Alliance Limited (CAL) as of 1 December 2020. Eirliani is also co-founder of YAKIN (Youths, Adult survivors & Kin In Need), which helps child victims and adult survivors of child sexual abuse. YAKIN is a member of Twitter’s Safety & Trust Council. She was Program Director at the Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation, founded by the Nobel Peace laureate.

                   

                  Silver Trophy Winner for the Essay/Blog Category, Roshani Shenazz is Founder of Meher Roshani Foundation, Mumbai. She has served as a Sr. Faculty – Producing, and is affiliated with The Whistling Woods International, the premium world acclaimed Film School in Mumbai, India. She is also affiliated with Institutions like; The Thadomal Shahani Centre for Management, and the Institutions under the HSNC Board, The Rotary Club (City Chapters), She is Member at the – Unity in Diversity World Civil Society (UNAOC) – India Chapter and Global Dialogue Foundation and Mentee at – The Cherie Blaire Foundation.

                   

                  Bronze Trophy Winner for the Book Category, Jeremy Monteiro is a jazz pianist, singer, composer, and music educator. In his native country he was named "Singapore's King of Swing" by the local press. He was awarded the Cultural Medallion in 2002. Monteiro was drawn to the spontaneity of jazz and turned professional at the age of 16.

                  The Golden Door - REX Karmaveer Medal

                      The prestigious Golden Door - REX Karmaveer Medal is empowered by the Karmaveer Chakra instituted by iCONGO (International Confederation of NGOs) in partnership with the United Nations, emphasis in the judging process for this Medal is given to writers who are champions for positive change.

                       

                      Only one Gold and Silver medal is awarded each year to the most qualified candidates based on a set judging criteria. There are multiple Bronze medalists for each year.

                      Notable Recipients & Enthusiasts of the REX Karmaveer

                          Richard Saul Wurman, the original Founder of TED before he sold it in 2002, is a REX enthusiast and mentor and has been supporting the REX Karmaveer to stay on the path for creating engaging, energising conversations and learning at REX.

                           

                          The words of Dr Verghese Kurien, father of the White Revolution, the first Karmaver Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient “Of all the awards I have been honoured with, Karmaveer Puraskaar holds a special place in my heart, since unlike most other awards, one does not need to indulge in any nepotism or lobby with any political or social faction for the Karmaveer Award. One can simply earn this honour and recognition by doing something noble to make a difference in our world.”

                            International Branding Opportunities

                                Every shortlisted candidate will be given the opportunity to present for up to 15 minutes to a global virtual audience. This will be on the final day (6th Sep 2021) of the prestigious Golden Door Awards Virtual Convention. Furthermore, the Winners & Medalists will be showcased on various media platforms from social media, magazine or TV.

                                  Select Winners as Golden Door Ambassadors

                                      Amongst the Winners & Medalists, a select group will be invited to become Golden Door Ambassadors. This raises the bar one notch higher with an opportunity to be on panels and high profile projects.

                                       

                                      At the Golden Door 2021, all Golden Door 2020 Ambassadors will receive VIP tickets and wil be personally honoured by the Founder and the Guest of Honour at the event.

                                        The Submission Process (Early Submission is on the 31st Dec 2020)

                                            Publishers must complete the online entry form and submit payment.

                                            • All registrations must be made through the online submission link. When you successfully complete Step 1 of the online submission, you would have received the proof in the form of a PDF file automatically sent to your email address. If you can't find it, check your SPAM folder.
                                            • For unpublished manuscripts : Please double-space your submission and use Times New Roman 12 pt font. 
                                            • Multiple submissions : We allow multiple submissions 
                                            • Entry fee : There is a USD 50 entry fee for each book submission, USD 30 for each essay / blog submission and USD 25 for each poem submission. For Early Submission, the rates are half the standard rates. Entry fees are non-refundable regardless of any reason or circumstance.
                                            • Modes of payment : Accepted forms of payment include PayPal, credit card and bank transfer. Please be prepared with payment information before you begin the online submission process. Check payments will not be accepted. 
                                            • Ineligibility : Publishers and Authors whose submitted entries for any of the categories are deemed ineligible by the Golden Door Awards will still be subject to the stated entry fee. 
                                            • Call-in titles : The Chief Judge may “call in” titles through the Golden Door Awards office that have not been submitted by the Publisher or Author. The Golden Door Awards then asks Publishers or Authors to submit these titles for consideration, assuming they meet eligibility requirements. Publishers or Authors may submit at their own discretion. The relevant fee applies to all call-in titles.
                                            • Consent : Each Author must be made aware of and consent to the entry of his/her book or manuscript for the Golden Door Awards.
                                            Additional note for Publishers submitting on behalf of Authors:
                                            • Each Publisher must designate one person to coordinate all Golden Door Award-related matters with the Golden Door Awards throughout the Awards process. This person will be contacted in the case that a title becomes part of the Longlist. If this person is new to the process, please make sure they are familiar with these guidelines and deadlines.

                                                Unfortunately, no entries can be submitted once the entry form deadline has passed.

                                                 

                                                What should I do if galley copies of an entered title won’t be available before 31st Mar 2021?
                                                We accept both published and unpublished works. Finished copies may be sent to Golden Door Awards when they become available and if we ask for them.

                                                 

                                                Are graphic novels and graphic memoirs eligible for the Golden Door Awards?
                                                Yes, provided they meet the eligibility requirements stated above.

                                                 

                                                Can a writer submit their own book/manuscript for consideration?
                                                Yes. The entry form can be completed by the writer or a publisher (on behalf of a writer) in order for a book or manuscript to be considered.

                                                 

                                                How will I know if the Golden Door Awards has received the books I mailed?

                                                Only shortlisted participants will be asked to submit hard copies of their books (max 3). We will notify you via email. Otherwise, only soft copies are required.

                                                 

                                                When will I be notified if an entry I entered for consideration is on the Shortlist?

                                                If your entry is chosen for the Top 20, the contact person who submitted the manuscript will be notified.

                                                 

                                                Am I required to attend the Awards?

                                                All participants who have been shortlisted are required to attend the awards event virtually in September 2021 to remain in the competition for selection and announcement of the Winner/s. No physical attendance is required.
